Daily Devotionals & Reflections

In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.”

Lord Show Me Who You Want Me To Be

Sometimes we spend so much time asking God to change our circumstances that we forget to ask Him to change us. We ask Him to open the right doors, fix the difficult situations, remove the obstacles, and make a way. And those are all things we can bring to God. But there is another prayer that may be even more important:

“Lord, show me who You want me to be.”

Who do You want me to become in this season?

How do You want me to respond when I am hurt?

How do You want me to treat people who don't treat me well?

What do You want me to learn while I am waiting?

What parts of me need to grow?

What do I need to surrender?

Sometimes we are so focused on getting to the next season that we miss what God is trying to develop in us right where we are.

Maybe God is developing patience. Maybe He is teaching us to trust instead of control.

Maybe He is teaching us to forgive. Maybe He is teaching us to speak with grace.

Maybe He is teaching us to stop seeking approval from people and start seeking approval from Him. Maybe He is teaching us that our identity isn't found in our accomplishments, our position, our possessions, or what other people think of us.

God doesn't simply want to take us somewhere. He wants to make us into someone who can walk confidently in the purpose He has for us. And becoming that person may require letting go of things we have carried for a long time.

Old habits.

Old fears.

Old ways of thinking.

Old wounds.

Even old versions of ourselves.

We may not always like the process, but we can trust the One leading us through it.

Psalm 143:10 is such a beautiful prayer because it doesn't say, “Lord, let me do whatever I think is best.”

It says, “Teach me to do Your will.” That requires humility. It means being willing to say, “Lord, even if Your way is different from mine, I want Your way.” Today, instead of only asking God to change everything around us, let's ask Him to show us what He wants to change within us. Because maybe the greatest thing God wants to accomplish in this season isn't simply changing our circumstances. Maybe He is changing us. And when He does, we'll be ready for whatever comes next.

Psalm 143:10 NIV

“Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

Who is God calling me to become in this season?

What quality is God trying to develop in me right now?

Is there something I need to surrender because it no longer belongs in the person God is shaping me to be?

Am I willing to let God lead me, even when His way is different from what I had planned?

Take a moment today to declare:

“Lord, don't just change my circumstances—change me. Show me who You want me to be, and give me the courage to become that person.”

Reflection

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today I don't just ask You to change my circumstances.

I ask You to change me.

Show me who You want me to be.

Teach me how to respond with grace when I am hurt, patience when I am waiting, wisdom when I am uncertain, and faith when I cannot see what is ahead.

Reveal the parts of me that need to grow and give me the courage to surrender the things that are holding me back.

Help me stop worrying so much about who other people want me to be and become more concerned with who You are calling me to be.

If I need to become more patient, teach me patience.

If I need to become more forgiving, soften my heart.

If I need to become more courageous, strengthen me.

If I need to let go, give me the strength.

And if You are preparing me for something I cannot see yet, prepare me for it.

Lord, show me who You want me to be, and help me trust You through the process of becoming.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
