Pray For Our Children
There is something powerful about a parent praying for their child. We can teach them, guide them, protect them, and try to prepare them for life, but there will always be places we cannot go with them and things we cannot control.
That is why prayer matters so much.
We may not always know what our children are thinking. We may not know every conversation they have, every influence they encounter, every fear they carry, or every decision they will make. But God knows.
We can pray for their protection, but we can also pray for their hearts. We can ask God to give them wisdom when we are not there to advise them, courage when they feel afraid, discernment when they are making choices, and the strength to walk away from things that are not good for them.
Most importantly, we can pray that our children will know God for themselves.
We cannot force someone to have a relationship with God. But we can continually place our children before Him and ask Him to reveal Himself to them. We can pray that when they are confused, they will seek Him. When they are hurting, they will call on Him. When they are tempted, they will remember His truth. And when they experience blessings, they will recognize where those blessings come from.
Our children will grow, become independent, and eventually make their own decisions. But our prayers do not have an expiration date.
So keep praying.
Pray over their minds. Pray over their friendships. Pray over their future. Pray over their choices. Pray over their protection. Pray over their purpose. Pray that they will know the difference between the voice of God and the noise of the world.
And when you cannot be there, God can.
Isaiah 54:13 NIV
โAnd all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.โ
What specific areas of my child's life do I need to place before God today?
Am I trusting God with the things concerning my child that I cannot control?
Have I prayed not only for my child's protection, but also for their relationship with God?
What blessing, promise, or Scripture can I continually pray over my child?
Take a moment today to declare:
โFather, I place my children in Your hands. Where I cannot go, You can go. Where I cannot see, You can see. Protect their minds, their hearts, their friendships, and their future. Give them wisdom, discernment, courage, and peace. Keep them from influences that will lead them away from You and surround them with people who will encourage them toward You. Most of all, draw their hearts to You. Let them know You, love You, and choose You for themselves. I trust You with the children You have entrusted to me.โ
Reflection
Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Father, thank You for the gift of our children. We know we cannot protect them from everything, but we know that You can watch over them wherever they are. Cover them with Your protection and guide their steps. Give them wisdom beyond their years and surround them with good influences. Guard their hearts from the things of this world and plant Your Word deeply within them. Let them grow into the people You created them to be. And above everything else, let them come to know You personally and walk with You all the days of their lives.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
