THE COVENANT
Daily Devotionals & Reflections
In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.”

Lay Down What Isn’t Yours
It’s easy to pick up things that were never meant for us to carry.
Other people’s expectations.
Situations we cannot control.
Emotional weight that doesn’t belong to us.
Sometimes we carry it because we care.
Sometimes because we feel responsible.
And sometimes because we don’t know how to put it down.
But God never asked you to carry everything.
He never asked you to fix every problem.
He never asked you to hold every burden.
He never asked you to take on what only He can handle.
He simply says: give it to Me.
When we carry what isn’t ours, it drains us.
It clouds our thinking.
It steals our peace.
But when we release it, something shifts.
Peace returns.
Clarity comes back.
Strength is restored.
Letting go doesn’t mean you don’t care—it means you trust God enough to handle it better than you can.
Tomorrow, be mindful of what you’re holding.
If it’s causing constant stress…
If it feels heavy beyond reason…
If it’s pulling you away from peace…
It may not be yours to carry.
So instead of holding tighter, do something different.
Pause.
Pray.
Release.
And say:
“Lord, this is Yours, not mine.”
Because freedom begins the moment you stop carrying what God never assigned to you.
Psalm 55:22 NIV
“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous be shaken.”
What am I carrying right now that God never asked me to carry?
Is this something I can control, or something I need to surrender?
What would my day feel like if I truly released this to God?
As you breathe in, whisper: “I release it.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “I trust You, Lord.”
Reflection
Closing Prayer
Lord,
You never asked me to carry everything, yet I often find myself weighed down by things that aren’t mine.
Give me the wisdom to recognize what I need to release and the courage to let it go. Teach me to trust You with the things I cannot control.
Fill my heart with Your peace as I lay every burden at Your feet.
Amen.
