Daily Devotionals & Reflections

In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.”

When God Brings You to a Stop

Just yesterday my mind was racing with everything that needed to get done.

Tasks waiting.

Things I needed to follow up on.

Plans for the days ahead.

Life was moving at its usual pace, and like most of us, I was focused on keeping up with it all.

Then in a moment, everything changed.

An accident at work left me with a fractured ankle, and suddenly the same person who was worrying about completing tasks is now on four weeks of leave.

Just like that, life forced me to stop.

The suddenness of it can bring questions: Why did this happen? Why now? What am I supposed to do with this time?

But in moments like this, I’m reminded of something God gently whispers to our hearts:

Be still.

Not everything in life is meant to be solved or explained immediately. Sometimes God allows moments that slow us down so we can remember that our lives are not sustained by our activity, but by His presence.

When we are constantly moving, it’s easy to believe that everything depends on us — our effort, our planning, our ability to keep things going. But moments like this remind us that God is the One truly in control.

This unexpected pause may not have been part of my plans, but it is not outside of God’s awareness.

And instead of only asking “Why did this happen?”, I can begin asking a different question:

“Lord, what would You like to do in my heart during this time?”

Perhaps this season is an invitation to slow down.

To rest.

To pray more deeply.

To listen more closely.

God often works in the quiet spaces we would never choose for ourselves.

So while this pause was unexpected, I trust that God can use even this moment — this forced stillness — to draw me closer to Him.

And sometimes, the greatest work God does in us happens when we are finally still long enough to notice Him.

Psalm 46:10 NIV

“Be still, and know that I am God...”

Has life ever forced you to slow down unexpectedly?

Instead of asking only “Why?”, what might change if you asked, “Lord, what are You teaching me during this time?”

How could this pause become an opportunity to grow closer to God?

As you breathe in, whisper: “Be still.”

As you breathe out, whisper: “God is in control.”

Reflection

Closing Prayer

Lord,

You see the moments when life suddenly stops and the plans we had change without warning.

Help me trust You even in these unexpected pauses. Teach me to use this time not for frustration or worry, but for deeper connection with You.

Quiet my heart, steady my thoughts, and remind me that You are present even in the stillness.

Amen.
