When The Test Comes
Most people do not enjoy tests.
Whether in school, work, relationships, or faith, tests often reveal what we would rather not be confronted with—our weaknesses, our fears, and our need for growth.
Spiritually, tests are not meant to destroy us. They are meant to develop us.
When the test comes, it is easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged. We may wonder why things are getting harder instead of easier, or why God is allowing us to go through a season of pressure.
But Scripture reminds us that testing has a purpose.
It produces perseverance.
Perseverance is what keeps us standing when life does not go as planned. It strengthens our faith so that we do not give up when things become difficult.
The test reveals where our trust truly is. Not so we can be condemned, but so we can be strengthened.
God is not surprised by the tests you face. In fact, He is present in them, shaping you through them, and walking with you in them.
And while tests are temporary, the growth they produce is lasting.
So when the test comes, do not immediately assume you are failing.
Instead, ask what God is building in you through it.
Stay steady.
Stay prayerful.
Stay faithful.
Because what feels like pressure today may become strength tomorrow.
“The test is not here to break me, but to build me.”
James 1:2-3 NIV
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
What current challenge in my life feels like a test of my faith?
Am I asking God to remove the test, or to grow me through it?
What might God be teaching me in this season?
As you breathe in, whisper: “Strengthen my faith.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “Help me endure.”
Reflection
Closing Prayer
Lord,
When tests come into my life, help me not to lose heart. Give me strength to endure, wisdom to learn, and faith to trust You through every challenge.
Remind me that You are with me in every trial and that You are using it to shape me for good.
Help me remain faithful, even when it is difficult.
Amen.
