Lessons From The Story Of Moses: God Can Use You

The story of Moses teaches us that God can use someone who doesn't feel ready, qualified, or capable.

When God called Moses, Moses had plenty of reasons why he thought he couldn't do it.

He questioned himself.

He felt inadequate.

He worried that people wouldn't listen to him.

He even asked God, “Who am I?”

Perhaps you've asked that same question in your own way.

Who am I to do this?

Who am I to lead?

Who am I to start again?

Who am I to believe that God could use me?

But God's answer to Moses wasn't about Moses' ability.

God's answer was about His presence.

God told Moses, “I will be with you.”

That was enough.

Moses didn't need to have everything figured out. He didn't need to feel completely confident. He needed to trust that the God who called him would also go with him.

This connects to so many of the lessons we've been reflecting on recently.

Like Abraham, Moses had to trust God with an unknown future.

Like Isaiah, Moses had to respond to God's call even though he felt unworthy.

Like Daniel, Moses had to stand courageously in the face of opposition.

Like Job, Moses had moments when he didn't understand everything God was doing.

And like Ruth and Naomi, Moses' story reminds us that God can bring purpose out of difficult and unexpected circumstances.

Moses' life also reminds us that our past does not disqualify us from God's future.

Moses had made mistakes. He had experienced failure. He had spent years in the wilderness.

Yet God still called him.

Perhaps your life doesn't look the way you thought it would.

Maybe you've experienced disappointment, delays, mistakes, or seasons that left you wondering what God could possibly do with your story.

But your past is not the end of your story.

The wilderness may have felt like a place of isolation, but God was preparing Moses there.

The waiting was preparation.

The quiet was preparation.

The struggle was preparation.

And when God's timing came, Moses was called to step forward.

Maybe you are in your own season of preparation right now.

Don't despise it.

Don't assume that because you feel stuck, God is doing nothing.

He may be preparing you for something you cannot yet see.

When God calls you, remember what He told Moses:

“I will be with you.”

You don't have to be fearless.

You don't have to feel ready.

You don't have to know exactly how everything will work out.

You simply need to trust the God who goes before you.

“I may not feel ready, but if God is with me, I have everything I need to take the next step.”

Lessons

1. God can use people who feel inadequate.
Your weaknesses do not surprise God, and they do not prevent Him from working through you.

2. Your past does not disqualify your future.
God can redeem your mistakes and use your experiences for His purpose.

3. Waiting seasons can be preparation seasons.
What feels like being stuck may actually be God preparing you for what comes next.

4. You don't have to know everything before you obey.
Moses didn't have the entire plan. He simply had to trust God's next instruction.

5. God's presence is greater than your ability.
The most important thing God gave Moses was not confidence in himself, but the promise of His presence.

Exodus 3:10 NIV

“So now, go. I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.”

Where have I been saying, “I can't,” when God may be asking me to trust Him?

Am I allowing my past or my insecurities to determine what I believe God can do through me?

Could the season I'm currently in be preparing me for something God has not yet revealed?

What is the next step God is asking me to take?

As you breathe in, whisper: “God, You are with me.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “I will not be afraid.”

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the story of Moses and the reminder that You can use ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things.

When I feel inadequate, remind me that my strength comes from You. When I feel unworthy, remind me of Your grace. When I feel stuck, help me to trust that You may be preparing me for what lies ahead.

Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear and insecurity to hold me back.

Give me the courage to say yes when You call me.

Help me to remember that I don't have to walk into the future alone. Just as You promised Moses, You are with me.

I trust You with my past.

I trust You with my present.

And I trust You with my future.
