El Elyon — The Most High God

“Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations.”

After resting in El Shaddai — the God who is more than enough — today my heart is drawn to El Elyon, the Most High God.

This name reminds me that no matter what feels heavy, loud, or overwhelming in my life, God is still above it all. Above circumstances. Above opposition. Above uncertainty. Nothing rises higher than Him. Nothing outranks His authority.

There are moments when problems feel close — right in front of me, pressing in, demanding attention. And when I stay focused there, fear grows. Worry multiplies. Perspective shrinks. But remembering El Elyon lifts my eyes.

God is not reacting to what’s happening around me.

He is reigning over it.

El Elyon means God is supreme — not competing, not threatened, not scrambling to fix things. He sees the full picture when I can only see what’s right in front of me. He holds authority over every situation I’m praying about, even when I don’t yet see the outcome.

Scripture reminds us:

“For the Lord Most High is awesome, the great King over all the earth.”

— Psalm 47:2 (NIV)

Knowing God as El Elyon helps me loosen my grip. I don’t have to control what I was never meant to carry. I don’t have to fear what God already rules over. My role is not to climb higher — it’s to trust deeper.

When I acknowledge God as Most High, my posture shifts from anxiety to surrender. From striving to confidence. From fear to worship.

Today, I want to live remembering this truth:

God is above what I’m facing.

God is greater than what concerns me.

God is already where I’m going.

Genesis 17:1 NIV

Reflection

What situation feels overwhelming right now?

How does remembering God as El Elyon change your perspective?

Where can you release control and trust His authority today?

As you breathe in, whisper: “You are Most High.”

As you breathe out, whisper: “I trust You.”

Closing Prayer

El Elyon, Most High God,

Thank You for reigning above every detail of my life.

When I feel surrounded by pressure or uncertainty, lift my eyes to You.

Help me trust Your authority when I don’t understand Your timing.

Teach me to rest in the truth that You are in control.

Today, I choose surrender over fear

and worship over worry,

trusting You as the Most High God.

Amen.
