The Devil Is a Liar — and Sometimes It Requires Warfare

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

I need to say this plainly, because it matters: the devil is a liar.

And I’ve learned — sometimes the hard way — that his attacks don’t usually come when we’re drifting. They come when we’re drawing closer to our Father. When we’re becoming more aware. More rooted. More intentional in our walk with God. That’s when resistance shows up.

The enemy rarely attacks head-on. He distracts. He confuses. He stirs fear, tension, and discouragement. And often — painfully — he tries to use the people we love most. Not because he has authority over them, but because he knows where our hearts are most vulnerable.

I’ve also come to understand something else: sometimes this isn’t just endurance — it’s warfare.

I’ll be honest — I am still very new and still learning how to operate in the spiritual realm. I don’t always recognize what’s happening right away. Sometimes I feel it before I understand it. But I’m learning that standing firm in God isn’t passive. It requires intention. Awareness. Choosing truth when lies feel loud.

Spiritual warfare doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it looks like staying in prayer when you want to withdraw. Staying in the Word when you feel tired. Choosing peace when conflict tries to pull you off course. Standing guard over your thoughts, your heart, and your home.

And here is the truth I’m holding onto:

the enemy can try — and oh, how he will try — but he cannot touch what God is covering.

When we are standing firm in our daily bread, rooted in God’s Word and presence, the enemy’s efforts will not succeed. He may shake things. He may cause noise. But he does not get the final word.

God does.

So if you’re feeling resistance today — don’t assume you’re doing something wrong. It may be confirmation that you’re moving closer. Stay alert, but not afraid. Stay grounded, not reactive. Stay fed on truth.

Because no matter how persistent the attack, it will never overcome our God.

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper.” Isaiah 54:17

John 10:10

Reflection

Where have you noticed resistance as you’ve drawn closer to God?

What might spiritual warfare look like for you right now — quietly, daily, faithfully?

How can you stay grounded in truth instead of reacting in fear?

As you breathe in, whisper: “I stand in truth.”

As you breathe out, whisper: “God is greater.”

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for protecting me as I learn to walk more closely with You.

I admit that I am still learning — still growing — still becoming aware of the spiritual battles around me.

Give me discernment to recognize what is not from You and wisdom to respond in truth.

Teach me how to stand firm in my daily bread.

When attacks come, help me remain steady, prayerful, and rooted in You.

I trust that no plan of the enemy will succeed against the power of our God.

As I go out today, I choose truth over lies, peace over fear,

and confidence in the God who goes before me.

Amen.
