El Gibbor — Mighty God
There are moments when I become painfully aware of my own limits.
Moments when I don’t have the strength.
When I don’t have the answers.
When I don’t know how things will work out.
And it’s in those moments that the name El Gibbor meets me — Mighty God.
Not just God who sees me.
Not just God who is with me.
But God who is strong when I am not.
El Gibbor means more than powerful. It speaks of God as a warrior, a champion, a defender — One who prevails. He does not grow tired. He does not hesitate. He does not lose.
There are battles I’ve tried to fight in my own strength — situations I tried to fix, carry, or control. And if I’m honest, it left me exhausted. Because I was never meant to carry what only El Gibbor can carry.
His strength is not dependent on my strength.
His power is not limited by my weakness.
His ability is not threatened by my uncertainty.
Scripture reminds us:
“The Lord is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.”
— Exodus 15:2 (NIV)
El Gibbor reminds me that I don’t have to be strong all the time. I don’t have to hold everything together. I don’t have to win every battle. My role is not to replace God — it’s to trust Him.
There is peace in knowing that the outcome is not resting on my shoulders, but on His.
Today, I want to release the pressure to be strong on my own. I want to lean into El Gibbor — the Mighty God who never fails, never weakens, and never lets go.
Isaiah 9:6 NIV
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Where are you feeling weak or overwhelmed right now?
What battle have you been trying to fight in your own strength?
What would it look like to trust El Gibbor with it?
As you breathe in, whisper: “You are mighty.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “I trust You.”
Reflection
Closing Prayer
El Gibbor, Mighty God,
Thank You for being strong where I am weak.
When I feel overwhelmed or uncertain, remind me that You are my defender.
Help me release the need to carry what was never mine to carry.
Strengthen my faith as I trust in Your power and Your presence.
Today, I choose to rest in You —
the Mighty God who fights for me and holds me secure.
Amen.
