God Wants Us To Hear Him

We are living in a time when there is so much noise around us.

Everyone has an opinion.

Everyone has advice.

Everyone has something to say about what we should do, where we should go, what we should believe, and how we should live.

And sometimes, in the middle of all that noise, God's voice can become harder to recognize—not because He has stopped speaking, but because we have stopped being still enough to listen.

God wants us to hear Him.

Not only when we are in trouble.

Not only when we need an answer.

Not only when we need a miracle.

He wants us to develop a relationship with Him where we recognize His voice and seek His direction every day.

Jesus said, “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27.

There is something powerful about that word: listen.

Listening requires us to slow down.

It requires us to put down the distractions and quiet the thoughts that constantly compete for our attention.

Sometimes we pray so much about what we want God to do that we forget to stop and ask what God wants us to hear.

Maybe God is telling us to wait.

Maybe He is telling us to let something go.

Maybe He is reminding us that we are loved.

Maybe He is warning us not to go down a certain path.

Maybe He is encouraging us to take a step of faith.

Maybe He is simply reminding us:

“Be still. I am with you.”

And we need to be careful about what voices we allow to guide us.

Fear has a voice.

Anxiety has a voice.

People have a voice.

Our past has a voice.

The enemy has a voice.

But God's voice brings us back to His truth.

That's why knowing God's Word matters so much. The more familiar we become with Scripture, the better we can recognize what aligns with God's character and what doesn't.

God isn't trying to confuse us.

He wants a relationship with us.

He wants us to seek Him before making decisions, to bring our concerns to Him, and to remain sensitive to His direction.

Perhaps more than ever, we need to step away from the noise and make room for God.

Put down the phone.

Turn off the distractions.

Open the Bible.

Pray.

Sit quietly.

And say:

“Speak, Lord. I'm listening.”

We may not always receive an immediate answer.

Sometimes listening to God means waiting.

But even in the waiting, we can trust that He is present.

God still speaks. The question is whether we are making room to hear Him.

Hebrews 3:7-8 NIV

“Today, if only you would hear his voice, ‘Do not harden your hearts.’”

Have I been giving God enough quiet time to speak to my heart?

Am I listening for God's direction, or am I only asking Him to bless the direction I've already chosen?

What voices have been louder in my life than God's voice?

Is there something God may be asking me to slow down, surrender, or pay attention to?

Take a moment today to pray:

“Speak, Lord. Quiet everything that is distracting me from You. Help me recognize Your voice, understand Your Word, and have the courage to follow where You lead.”

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

In the middle of all the noise around me, help me hear You.

Quiet my heart when my thoughts are racing. Remove the distractions that keep me from spending time with You. Help me recognize Your voice above the opinions, fears, pressures, and confusion around me.

Give me wisdom to know what is from You and what is not.

If You are telling me to wait, help me wait.

If You are telling me to move, give me courage.

If You are telling me to let go, give me strength.

If You are reminding me that You are with me, help me believe it.

Lord, I don't want to be so busy asking You to speak that I forget to be still enough to listen.

Speak, Lord. Your servant is listening.
