Lessons From Paul: Fasting, Strength When Your Own Strength Runs Out

Paul's life teaches us that God's strength isn't about never feeling weak. It's about knowing where to turn when we are weak.

Paul experienced rejection, disappointment, persecution, imprisonment, uncertainty, and hardship. Yet he continued moving forward in his calling.

What makes Paul's story so powerful is that he didn't pretend everything was easy.

He admitted his struggles.

He experienced fear.

He became tired.

He faced situations he couldn't fix himself.

But Paul learned something that changed the way he lived:

His ability to keep going did not come from himself. It came from God.

There are seasons when we can feel like we've reached the end of our own strength.

You have prayed.

You've done what you can.

You've tried to remain positive.

You've kept showing up.

But inside, you may be thinking:

“Lord, I don't know how much more I can do.”

That doesn't mean your faith is weak.

It means you're human.

And sometimes that is exactly where God wants us—to stop relying entirely on ourselves and start depending more deeply on Him.

God doesn't always remove the situation immediately.

Sometimes He gives us the strength to walk through it.

He gives us peace while we wait.

Patience when we want answers.

Courage when we're afraid.

Wisdom when we don't know what decision to make.

And endurance when the journey feels longer than we expected.

Paul learned to be content in different circumstances—not because every circumstance was good, but because Christ was his source of strength in every circumstance.

That is the strength we need too.

Not the strength to pretend we're okay.

Not the strength to carry everything ourselves.

But the strength to say:

“God, I can't do this without You, but I know I don't have to.”

Maybe today you don't need God to change everything around you.

Maybe you need Him to strengthen everything within you.

So when your own strength runs out, don't be ashamed.

Pause.

Pray.

Surrender.

And let God carry what you cannot.

Your strength may have limits. God's strength does not.

1. Being tired doesn't mean you're failing.
Even faithful people experience seasons of weakness.

2. God gives strength for the journey.
He may not remove every difficulty, but He will meet you in it.

3. You don't have to carry everything yourself.
Surrendering your burdens to God is an act of faith, not weakness.

4. Your circumstances don't have to control your peace.
Paul found strength in Christ even when his circumstances were difficult.

5. Depend on God daily.
You don't need to have enough strength for the entire future. Ask God for what you need today.

Philippians 4:13 NIV

“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

Lessons

Where have I been relying on my own strength instead of God's?

What burden do I need to surrender to Him today?

Can I trust God to give me the strength I need for the next step rather than worrying about everything ahead?

Today, declare:

“I don't have to be strong enough for everything. I only need to trust the God who is strong enough for me.”

Reflection

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Today I admit that my own strength has limits.

There are things I cannot control, situations I cannot change, and moments when I simply don't know how much more I can carry.

So instead of trying to be strong on my own, I turn to You.

Give me the strength to keep going.

Give me peace when I am anxious.

Give me patience while I wait.

Give me wisdom when I don't know what to do.

And give me courage for whatever comes next.

Help me remember that I don't have to have everything figured out. I don't have to carry tomorrow today.

You are my strength when I am weak, my peace when I am troubled, and my hope when I cannot see the way forward.

I place my trust in You.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
