Lessons From Jeremiah: Don't Judge The Messenger, Listen To The Message
Jeremiah's life teaches us an important lesson about not judging the messenger simply because we don't like the message.
Jeremiah was called by God to deliver difficult messages to the people of Judah. He warned them about their disobedience and called them back to God.
But people didn't always want to hear what he had to say.
Jeremiah was mocked, rejected, threatened, and even imprisoned because of the message he delivered.
Yet the message wasn't about Jeremiah.
It was about God.
This is something we can easily forget.
Sometimes we hear something we don't like, and instead of considering whether there is truth in the message, we immediately criticize the person delivering it.
We focus on their personality.
Their mistakes.
Their background.
Their delivery.
Their imperfections.
And we miss the message.
Jeremiah wasn't perfect. He struggled. He became discouraged. He questioned why he had been chosen for such a difficult assignment.
But God still used him.
And that reminds us that God can deliver a message through an imperfect messenger.
The messenger doesn't have to be perfect for the message to contain truth.
At the same time, this doesn't mean we should accept everything someone says simply because they claim to speak for God. We are called to use wisdom and discernment and compare what we hear with God's Word.
But we should be careful about rejecting truth simply because we don't like the person delivering it.
Sometimes the very message that challenges us is the message we need most.
A correction can be an act of love.
A difficult truth can protect us.
A word of encouragement can come from someone we least expect.
So today, let's ask God for discernment—not judgment.
Help me to listen before I react.
Help me to consider the message instead of immediately judging the messenger.
Help me recognize truth even when it comes from someone I don't expect.
And help me remain humble enough to receive correction when God is trying to teach me something.
The question isn't always, “Who said it?” Sometimes the better question is, “Is there something God is trying to teach me through it?”
1. Don't reject truth because you dislike the messenger.
Consider the message carefully before judging the person delivering it.
2. God can use imperfect people.
None of us are perfect, yet God can still work through us.
3. Difficult messages can be necessary messages.
Not everything God wants us to hear will be comfortable.
4. Use discernment, not prejudice.
Test what you hear against God's Word rather than accepting or rejecting it based solely on the person speaking.
5. Stay humble enough to learn.
Sometimes God uses unexpected people to teach us something we need to hear.

Have I ever rejected good advice because I didn't like the person giving it?
Am I sometimes more focused on who is speaking than what is being said?
Can I ask God to give me discernment and humility to recognize truth wherever it comes from?

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the example of Jeremiah and the reminder that You can use imperfect people to deliver important messages.
Give me a heart that listens before it judges. Help me not to dismiss truth simply because I don't like the person delivering it.
Give me discernment to recognize what is from You and wisdom to test everything against Your Word.
And when You use someone to correct, challenge, or teach me, give me the humility to listen instead of becoming defensive.
Help me also to remember that when You use me, I don't have to be perfect. I simply need to be willing and faithful.
Let me focus on the message, seek Your truth, and keep my heart open to what You are trying to teach me.
