In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for Me wholeheartedly, you will find Me.”

When You Feel Yourself Slipping Back

It doesn’t usually happen all at once.

You don’t wake up and decide to go backwards.

It’s small things.

You start overthinking again.
You react a little quicker than you wanted to.
You feel the stress creeping back in.
You handle something the way you said you wouldn’t.

And then that thought comes:

“I thought I was past this…”

That feeling can be frustrating.

Like you’ve undone progress.
Like something didn’t stick.
Like you’re right back where you started.

But you’re not.

Slipping into an old reaction doesn’t mean you’ve gone back—
it just means you’re human and still growing.

Growth isn’t a straight line.
It’s learning, adjusting, noticing, and choosing again.

And the fact that you notice it now?
That’s already different.

Before, you may not have caught it.
Before, it may have felt normal.

Now, something in you pauses.

That pause matters.

That awareness is growth.

So instead of being hard on yourself today…

Just reset.

Catch the moment.
Take a breath.
Choose differently the next time it comes.

And remind yourself:

“I’m not back at the beginning—I’m becoming aware.”

Because real change doesn’t mean you never slip…

It means you don’t stay there.

Hebrews 2:1 NIV

“We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away.”

What have I noticed coming back up in me lately?

How am I responding differently than I used to?

Can I give myself grace while still choosing to grow?

As you breathe in, whisper: “I’m growing.”
As you breathe out, whisper: “I choose again.”

Reflection

Closing Prayer

Lord,

Thank You that growth is a process and not perfection. When I feel like I’m slipping back, remind me that You are still working in me.

Give me awareness in my moments, grace for myself, and strength to choose differently.

Help me to keep moving forward, one step at a time.

Amen.
